Pedagogy

As a teacher, Sha Wang is a member of Music Teacher National Association (MTNA), Pittsburgh Piano Teacher Association, as well as Society of Music Theory. Her students have competed and completed the certificate of merits in the state of California and are actively involved in the western Pennsylvania chapter.

Tradition

Dr. Wang came from the Russian School of Pianism and furthered her studies with Mr. Weinstock, who traces his musical heritage to the great pianist of all time, Arthur Schnabel. Her playing combines the virtuosity of the Russian School and the noble artistry of the Germanic Piano School. Both formed the foundation and philosophy of her teaching.

Philosophy

Virtuosity should always be in service of artistry. A pianist should be a musician, an artist, a historian, a story teller, an actor, a philosopher, and a genuine human being.

Methods

There are enormous amount of method books and workbooks available for young pianists on the market today. Popular methods such as Suzuki or Kodaly are widely available through music stores and local piano teachers.

As a piano teacher, Dr. Wang believes that children from age 6 to 9 have a special window of opportunity to develop a strong musical potential. Many studies have suggested that children who are involved in music, either piano or other instruments, do better in math and sciences in school.

Parents often have questions such as the age that a child should start studying piano and if a parent should sit in lessons. Please visit our F.A.Q section for related issues.
